Today we continue our visit with Stateside with an interview with Bob Maurice. Bob works on state and local issues. Note to lobbyists - Bob is the point person for lobbyists referrals. Bob began his career working in the Massachusetts state house. One of Bob’s early jobs was perfect preparation for doing political work – he was an EMT!

What’s the typical starting point at Stateside?
○ A research assistant - they back up the associates.
○ The associates are a grade above research assistant.
What kind of experience do you look for when hiring a research assistant?
○ You have to have experience working in a state legislature.
Where do people end up after the associate level?
○They will move to management, or they will often head in-house with a client company.
Have you seen any changes in lobbying in the past few years? Trends?
○ With inertia at the federal level, people are paying a lot more
attention to the states.
○The state attorneys general have also become much more active.
