Casey Whittington is the National Director of Government Relations at Blue Duck Scooters, a company offering an innovative transportation alternative through a scooter ridesharing app. They describe themselves as “a tech company that traded their computers for scooters.”
“Pick something you are passionate about and go volunteer your time for free. Everyone has a couple of hours a week. Go sit on a city board or commission. Go volunteer and see how you can influence public policy.”
In Casey Whittington’s role at Blue Duck, he leverages his experience in public relations and government affairs. Blue Duck's scooters are similar to razor scooters, but have a small motor, providing an alternative to rideshare bikes and traditional forms of transportation.
Blue Duck takes an innovative approach to the scooter industry- they ask for permission before dropping scooters in a city, as opposed to asking for forgiveness later. For Casey, collaboration with city officials is key to success.
Blue Duck is developing an internship program where you will gain "on the ground" experience, getting involved in real issues.
Casey discusses two wonderful programs, Morgan’s Wonderland, and Kinetic Kids, where he volunteers his time. Check them out if you are in the San Antonio area!
